For ten years I accompanied the Adult and Youth Gospel Choirs at Siloah Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. In that time I transcribed dozens of gospel songs from recordings, as there isn’t sheet music available for most of the material that we performed. As a result I learned how the genre of gospel music is different from pop, jazz or R&B. It has its own special sound and musical language that makes it a truly distinct style.

Based upon that decade of experience I wrote a piano instructional book titled Gospel Piano in cooperation with Hal Leonard, Inc., the world’s largest publisher of sheet music. If you are interested in gospel music, even if you aren’t a piano player, you’ll find the book informative.
